The Author - Chris Ryan

Chris Ryan was born in 1961 in a village near Newcastle. In 1984 he joined the SAS. During his ten years in the Regiment, he was involved in overt and covert operations and was also Sniper team commander of the anti-terrorist team.

During the Gulf War, Chris was the only member of an eight-man team to escape from Iraq, of which three colleagues were killed and four captured. It was the longest escape and evasion in the history of the SAS.

For this he was awarded the Military Medal. During Ryan's last two years in the Regiment he selected and trained potential SAS recruits, he left the SAS in 1994. His work in security takes him around the world.

He has also appeared in a number of TV programmes, including HUNTING CHRIS RYAN, PUSHED TO THE LIMIT (Toughest Families) and TERROR ALERT (Sky TV, 2004).

Chris Ryan's Tour Diary: May 2009

Monday 11th May

Chris kicked off his promotional tour for the paperback publication of Twister this week with a whole host of events and signings. Chris started the tour with a spectacular event at the Chantry Middle School in Morpeth just north of Newcastle where he signed over 120 books for the pupils. Chris then did some speedy stock signings in the city centre and also an interview with The Newcastle Evening Chronicle before dashing off to London in preparation for more events.

Tuesday 12th May

Chris visited The Charter School in Dulwich where he was really impressed with the questions he was asked and signed lots of stock for the school. In the evening, Chris visited Waterstone’s in Bromley where he did a ‘Lads and Dads’ event giving him the opportunity to talk about both his adult and children’s books to over 50 fans. Lots of books were signed by Chris and plenty of photos were taken too!

Wednesday 13th May

On the third day of his tour, Chris did two terrific events at Portsmouth Grammar School and Hayling Island Community centre. The day was run with military precision and so allowed Chris to do two stock signings at Waterstones and WHS Portsmouth. A great success all round.

Thursday 14th May

Filming new video for the website went very smoothly with Chris being the ultimate pro! Lots of great new footage of Chris talking about his books and the real life tales of survival and extreme experiences that inspired them.
